Bringing a new kitten home is a wonderful experience — full of joy, excitement, and a little bit of nervousness.
At Sun Dandelion, we prepare our kittens carefully for this moment, so the transition into their new home is as smooth and stress-free as possible.
Still, those first few days are very important for building trust and helping your kitten settle in comfortably.
1. Give Your Kitten Time and Space
When your kitten first arrives, everything around them is new — sights, sounds, and smells.
Choose a quiet, safe room where your kitten can stay for the first few days. Place their bed, litter tray, food, and waterin easy reach.
Avoid loud noises, sudden movements, or too many visitors at once.
Let your kitten explore at their own pace — curiosity will replace fear as they start to feel secure.
2. Keep a Consistent Routine
Cats love routine. Feed your kitten at similar times each day and keep their litter box and sleeping spot in the same place.
A regular schedule helps them feel safe and confident in their new environment.
3. Offer Gentle Contact
Sit on the floor and let your kitten approach you. Speak softly and offer your hand for a sniff before petting.
Never force cuddles — gentle patience works wonders. Within a few days, most kittens will start purring in your lap and following you around the house.
4. Nutrition and Litter Habits
Continue feeding the same food your kitten was used to at the cattery for at least the first week.
Sudden changes can upset their stomach. Clean water should always be available.
Our kittens are fully litter trained before leaving, but make sure the litter tray is easy to find and kept clean — kittens are very tidy by nature.
5. Play and Exploration
Provide toys that encourage play and exercise — small balls, feather wands, tunnels.
Playtime helps release energy and builds a strong bond between you and your kitten.
Make sure any dangerous objects (wires, plants, tiny decorations) are out of reach — kittens are curious explorers!
6. First Veterinary Visit
We recommend visiting your local vet within a few days to register your kitten and schedule future vaccinations.
Bring your kitten’s health record from Sun Dandelion so your vet can continue the same care plan.
7. Love, Patience, and Comfort
Every kitten adjusts differently — some will be confident right away, others may take a week or two.
Be patient, calm, and loving. With time, your kitten will feel completely at home, trusting you as their new family.
A Lifelong Friendship Begins
Those first few days are just the beginning of a wonderful journey.
With love, attention, and care, your Sun Dandelion kitten will reward you with years of affection, companionship, and gentle purring happiness.
